In many Spanish homes, the Christmas after-dinner table follows a very familiar ritual: someone brings out the tray of turrones, places it in the middle of the table and everyone looks for their favourite piece. Some go straight for the hard turrón, others never miss the soft one, and there is always someone who prefers to start with the chocolate. The El Almendro Selection of traditional turrones is designed for exactly that moment, as it brings together the brand's best-loved varieties in a single tray, already cut and individually wrapped.
It is an easy way to offer variety without having to buy, open and cut several bars. It is also a very practical option for anyone living outside Spain who wants a little bit of everything they associate with Christmas on their table.
The tray has a net weight of 400 grams and contains individual portions that combine the classic turrones with some of El Almendro's most popular chocolate versions. It includes:
Each portion is individually wrapped and placed in a tray that can go straight to the table, so there is no need to plate anything.
Hard turrón is the Alicante classic: whole toasted almonds bound with honey, sugar and egg white, with that crunchy texture that snaps when you bite into it. Soft turrón, on the other hand, is the creamy version we associate with Jijona, where the almonds are ground into a smooth, rich paste. If you want to know exactly how they differ, our blog explains the different types of turrón.
The third traditional piece is toasted egg yolk turrón, made with an almond and egg yolk base whose surface is toasted, much like a crema catalana. It is a very typical variety that is not always easy to find outside Spain, and here it sits alongside the two great classics.
The rest of the tray is dedicated to chocolate lovers. The crunchy chocolate turrón adds a contrast in texture, the chocolate turrón with almonds combines cocoa and nuts, and the three filled portions (white chocolate with turrón, milk chocolate with hazelnut praline and chocolate with truffle praline) are small creamy bites, very similar to a chocolate bonbon. If this is your favourite texture, you might also enjoy our article on praline turrón.
Whole bars still have plenty of charm, but individual portions have clear advantages when there are lots of people around the table.
With a single tray you get eight different varieties. It is ideal for letting each guest try several without opening bars that end up half-eaten in the cupboard.
Because each piece is wrapped individually, any portions left over stay in good condition for the next day. That is very handy during festivities that run from Christmas Eve all the way to Epiphany on 6 January.
There is nothing to cut or prepare. You can bring out the tray as it is or combine the portions with polvorones, marzipan and other Christmas sweets. If you are looking for inspiration, take a look at our ideas for arranging turrones on a tray.
The El Almendro Selection of traditional turrones also makes a lovely Christmas gift. It comes in a compact format, the packaging is hermetically sealed and its contents appeal both to those who prefer tradition and to those who head straight for the chocolate. That makes it a great present for family and friends who live outside Spain and miss the flavours of the season, or for introducing turrón to someone who has never tried it.
It can also be part of a hamper alongside other products such as cured meats, cheeses or cava. In our article on personalised Christmas hampers you will find ideas for putting together a complete gift.
For anyone who prefers to cut down on sugar, El Almendro also offers the sugar-free Selection of traditional turrones, in a 380-gram format. That way, nobody misses out on their piece of turrón after dinner.
El Almendro was born in Jijona, the town in Alicante considered the home of turrón, and has been making turrones from almonds, honey and traditional recipes for more than a century. Over time, the brand has added new flavours and formats, but its classic turrones are still the best known.
