What do I have to do to send ham abroad?

As you may have already imagined, you can send ham by mail abroad as an individual, but depending on the country to which you send it. Each territory has its own restrictions on food products that can enter through this route. As for the countries that do allow their entry, we recommend the following:

* Find out and know the import legislation of the country of destination.
* Make the shipment through a professional transport company, whether public or private, that ensures the preservation of the quality of  the product during the trip.
* If this is your first time, try sending ham in small quantities in case it happens to be held up at customs.
* It attends in detail to its vacuum packaging and packaging to transport the ham safely.
* In relation to customs, if the ham is sliced and not whole, it will facilitate that there are no problems for its retention.
* To confirm that it is a safe food, you can also send your Sanitary Registration Certificate. This is the label that accompanies the ham, where its certificate number and the manufacturer appear.
* Of all these recommendations, the one you should pay more attention to is how you have to package the food so that it reaches its destination with the same quality that you bought it. Perfectly vacuum packed.

In another of our posts, "How to send ham to Germany", we already explained how to package the product to send it by mail. Now, we explain how to enjoy a good vacuum-sliced ham, so that the person who receives it can savor it as it should.

How to enjoy a vacuum packed ham?

To start, you should know that there are two types of packs, the ham that is cut by hand and the one that is cut by machine. It is true that hand-cut ham is easier to taste, since the flavor and aromas are somewhat more authentic, especially if it is Iberian ham. And it is also true that most white hams are machine cut. Regardless of the cut, you can enjoy tasting it in both cases if you follow the following tips once you receive the product:

* Keep it in a place where it does not suffer sudden changes in temperature so as not to disturb the sensory characteristics. The best option is to have a cool place where it does not get sunlight, such as a pantry, a basement or a cellar. On the contrary, if you have no alternative, you can keep it in a refrigerator until you taste it.
* In the event that it has been kept in the fridge, it is advisable to remove it half an hour before starting to eat it, so that the ham warms up and you can remove the slices without them sticking.
In addition, after that half hour has passed, it is advisable to remove the slices from the pack and place them on a plate so that they are aired and lose contact with the plastic for approximately ten minutes.
* Another way, less recommended but just as valid so that the slices don´t stick when they are removed, is to open the hot water tap, reaching a warm temperature, put the package under water. In this step, you move it so that the heat spreads throughout the envelope and thus the slices reach their ideal temperature. After a few minutes, you take out the package, open it and you will see how the slices come out one by one without sticking.
* In the event that you take it out of the refrigerator, do not fall into placing it later on a hot plate as is done in some restaurants. In reality, the sudden change in temperature diminishes the qualities that give quality to the product.

In fact, as you may have noticed, the key to tasting the ham as it should be is to maintain its consumption temperature in an optimal way, since cold ham loses part of its flavor and too hot it can oxidize. Thus, the perfect temperature for consumption ranges between 19 and 22 degrees Celsius. Also, if they are perfectly packaged, the food can last from 60 to 90 days.

The only thing you need to really enjoy it is to accompany it with a good wine and the best aperitif. So, discover the best products of Your Spanish Shop in which we show you exquisite Spanish sausages and cheeses and please your palate, or give the pleasure of enjoying them to the person you send them to.

Destinations that accept the shipment of ham

Regarding destinations outside Europe, sending it is much more complicated for an individual. In fact, in the United States, for example, ham is only allowed to enter by mail if it is a product certified by the country; as well as another example is Australia, whose shipment is only allowed if you are a company.

In relation to the European territory, as we have already published in our different articles, sending ham by mail to Germany, France or any other country of the European Union is relatively simple. You just have to use a transport company that guarantees the quality of the product, perfectly packaged, during the trip.

But it is even easier if you just have to put the destination address on the Your Spanish Shop website. We send your products within Spain and Portugal and to the rest of European destinations with a minimum term of two days and a maximum of ten. Ready to enjoy them!
