The scientific explanation of hunger you feel middle of the night

It is not simple gluttony or a bad habit: it all depends on the reactions of our brain

Some people do it occasionally and who has the habit, but few who manage to resist the temptation to 'storm' the refrigerator in the middle of the night. A strange force leads to the kitchen and invites us to get something to eat, if we even enjoyed a delicious and hearty dinner. What this momentum is? Maybe you thought a bad habit like any other, or that for some people it is hard to keep your appetite under control. But there is more behind this behavior and science is investigating.

As we read in the blog Science Daily, a team from Brigham Young University (Utah, USA) has been proposed to analyze the issue, drawing some interesting conclusions. "We could consume excessively at night because the food did not so profitable, at least visually, at that time of day. Not just as satisfying to eat at night, of quecomemos way to try to be more satisfied "explains lead study author Travis Masterson.

Using magnetic resonance imaging, the researchers monitored the brain activity of various subjects while exposing them to different pictures of food. Participants in the trial saw 360 photos in two sessions, one in the morning and close at night, leaving one week between sessions. Among those selected were some foods low in calories, such as fruits, vegetables and fish; and other high-calorie, such as candy, ice cream and 'fast-food'.

As anticipated, the scientists recorded more intense neuronal responses to high-calorie food. However, it surprised to note that the emphasis of the reactions linked to esmenor satisfaction at the end of the day. Beyond our level of hunger or how we feel satiated, our brain does not experience the same feeling out in the morning and evening. The search for that feeling is what could lead us to eat at dawn.

However, researchers still found qualify in a preliminary phase of its work. They need time to delve into the evidence and deeper understanding of these findings. His goal now is to determine the impact on the feeding behavior of these neural responses; and thus using the data in weight control treatments. At the moment, when you feel 'night call the refrigerator', remember that your brain might be deceiving.
